This section’s mix of local stories in song is eclectic! First is a gruesome 17th century murder and its aftermath in The Ghost of Lady Bennet; then there is a 19th century brawl between canal navvies and railway builders in The Song of the Bridge; early 20th century education comes next with The Stony Schools; and in A Bob a Bloody Day, disgruntled soldiers vent their frustration. Three songs cover aspects of the Second World War next: the demise of The Wolverton Whistle; the celebration of War Weapons Week; and youthful encounters of The Forestry Song. Two much-loved animals are remembered with the dog Rover and the mare Snowflake. Finally, the curse of Bletchley’s 1960s housing is celebrated by those creating it: The Flies!
